​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Elkhead Reservoir State Park, located in the beautiful yampa valley of northwest Colorado, is an oasis in the high desert.

This 900 acre reservoir provides endless recreational opportunities including (but not limited to) boating, swimming, jet skiing, skiing, picnicking, wildlife watching, ​hiking, camping, meeting friends and neighbors, bird watching, biking, horseback riding hunting and fishing and many photo opportunities.​​

Boating
Boating on over 900 surface acres can satisfy both the power boater or skier as well as the fisherman looking for a more remote experience.

Camping
Camping at one of the 16 developed sites allows easy access to many of the activities offered at the reservoir. Bear's Ears Campground is now on the reservation system for customer convenience: 1-800-244-5613.

Dog-friendly
​Dogs are welcome in the park as long as:

they are on a six foot or shorter leash at all times

their waste is properly disposed of

​Dogs are not allowed in the water.

Fishing
​Ice fishing is now open.

Hiking
Hike along one of a variety of trails that follow the lakeshore;  although many are short hikes, they can be very rewarding to the conscious viewer.   For more information or any questions please call the headquarters office at 970-276-2061

Hunting
Hunting is allowed in designated areas around the reservoir, see regulations for more information.  Check with the Park Headquarters Office for maps of hunting areas.

Picnicking
Picnic or BBQ at one of many day use sites around the reservoir.

Wildlife Viewing
There is always an opportunity for wildlife viewing in one of Colorado’s most abundantly rich wildlife areas.
